The Birth of Touch~Of~Color KNOWtes

Art has always been a part of me. As a child it just came easy to see things and draw them, to feel deeply and to know how to interpret, and then create. While in high school, I prepared for a science-based career in college. Art classes were not a part of my curriculum. I used art as an escape from the core class work I was required to take for the direction of schooling I chose; it was for relaxation. For me to create art projects I had to be “in the mood”; it was a hobby, not a way to make a living! I feared having to do a project for someone would make it a chore and cause me to dislike art.

However, as my chosen profession was not to be, I found a way to use my artistic gift and fell into Landscape Architecture. It was not “fine arts”, but it did fill my need to combine a love of Nature and my innate art ability, AND it gave me a way to earn a living.

Marriage, children, and family issues are often the inspiration for many of my art projects. Life in general teaches so many lessons and if we listen to them, we gain a lot of KNOWledge. It is from those lessons in life that KNOWtes was born. A parent’s heart crisis inspired my NINE OF HEARTS card, the first of many designs that grew from what I have learned through LIVING life. (The first cards were thank you gifts for the hospital staff that tended my parent!) I gained KNOWledge during other life lessons and in turn created more stationery and greeting cards.  Although life is considered by some to be complex, it really is very simple as are my pen and ink or pencil sketches. The touch of color added to most of the sketches hints at what complexities hide inside the simple parts. I don’t have to color them for you to enjoy or understand them. They may remind you of what you learned in life and may touch the colors in your soul. Enjoy them; share them; learn from them. Touch~Of~Color KNOWtes; I hope they inspire YOU!
